The final post of 2011

Well, this year has certainly been a different one.

Not very many people know about this, but this time last year I was in hospital suffering from meningitis. I went in on Christmas eve and came out the day after boxing day. Right about this point one year ago I was hooked up to a drip, having loads of medication pumped into me.

Emi has come a long way in 2011. One of the highlights was the first 2 collections of my clothing line. I can honestly say how happy I was with the garments, but like some things, I can look back now and say that some things are just not meant to last. Sadly, the factory we were using closed down which meant the instant cease of the fashion line. I am really sad, but you know what I did feel that Emi had lost her way a bit...so now we are coming back with an amazing SS12 jewellery line!

Some of my favourite moments from the year have been when I started working for the new fashion brand MeeMee. After working at a famous Sports brand head office - and really fitting in well, its nice to be accepted into a new role with open arms.

My partner and I and going very strong, and I cannot be happier! We had a beautiful Christmas together and everything has worked out well.

So, whats next for Emi?

You may have noticed over the past few weeks that the site has been changing pretty much day, by day. I am currently in the process of creating a new brand logo with a major over-haul of the website. I think I got way to into clearing down the site, and i stripped back all of Emi's identity.

The new jewellery line is looking great. Delivery is estimated for the 2nd week of january. 10 preview lines have already been uploaded to the site - have a look?

The entire range is to be expanded and we are focussing on what we originally had planned - quirky, bohemian inspired jewellery!

Thanks for reading, happy new year!

A bit of old fashioned charm

I had to take the day off work today, I thin I've gotten one of those winter colds. Feeling sorry for myself, and with it p-ing down outside I couldn't face going to the local shop to buy my bf a birthday card...so - tray, biro, paper, scissors, paintbrushes, glue and probably a few other things I have forgotten about I decided to make Steven a birthday card for his 29th birthday tomorrow.

What d'ya think? Its drawn on recycled paper using an old biro I found. I kinda like it, its just like days gone by...

Happy birthday Steven!

I love you.

It's raining outside...so we made summer inside!

Well, I think it's just about safe to say summer 2011 is officially over. It's been raining here in Manchester for the past 3 days. Feeling a bit blue and sorry for ourselves, we decided to bring summer inside!

We decided to make lemon biscuits. Check the picture below, courtesy of our photographer Steven Proctor, (who by the way, ate more than he baked! ha ha)

Ingredients:

325g organic plain flour
200g salted butter , chilled and chopped
125g golden caster sugar
1 lemon , zested and juiced
2 free range egg yolks
200g organic icing sugar
2 drops of food colouring
a few glazed cherries

If your local corner shop doesn't stock much of a range of organic products, we recommend the following website.

Organic plain flour - Dovesfarm.co.uk £1.38 for 1kg

Organic caster Sugar - Goodnessdirect.co.uk £1.83 for 500g's

Organic Icing Sugar - Goodnessdirect.co.uk - £1.94 for 500g's

We prefer to use eggs from the Happy Egg Company. These are available from all major super markets.

How to bake:
1. Heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4.
2. Mix the flour and butter to breadcrumbs, add the sugar, lemon zest and egg yolk and process to a dough.
3. Roll the dough to 5mm thick and cut out biscuits.
4. Put on a buttered baking sheet and cook for 15-20 minutes. Once cooked take out and leave to cool before applying the icing.

For the topping:
1. Sift the icing sugar into a bowl and mix with enough of the lemon juice to make a runny icing.
3. Split into 3 bowls and add 1 drop of colouring to each bowl. Mix.
4. Drizzle the lemon icing over the biscuits. Et Voila!
